MEETING OF CHIUG!

Special FULL DAY Session.

Join the Chicago Informix User Group for a special full-day session that will provide you with TWO mini versions of longer IBM classes. Led by Mark Scranton, a long-time instructor known by users worldwide, you can learn alot about your Informix products and DB2 as well!:

MEETING SUMMARY:

IBM welcomes Informix users! NO ENTRY FEES! Enjoy free food and drinks. The next meeting of the CHIUG will be held on Tuesday, December 10th, from 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM at the Sears office in Hoffman Estates.

IDS and DB2: Are they really that different? (approximately 3 hours)
Presenter: Mark Scranton (IBM)

Mark will go through a mini version of a current class that is offered for Informix DBAs. This class will make specific comparisons between the features IDS and DB2. Mark will also provide very specific answers to your questions, based on his very outspoken technical point of view. Here is a summary of what will be covered in this half day

    IDS Internals for Informix DBAs
    Presenter: Mark Scranton (IBM)

    This presentation focuses on IDS internals concepts that would appear to be just low-level trivia, when in fact understanding these concepts can help the DBA in everyday troubleshooting, maintenance, and tuning of an IDS
    engine. Topics include long transactions, phys log overflow, max number of extents, disk level overhead, and partition pages. This is a short version of the full version class listed below.

    Full Versions of the Classes

    This class is targeted for IDS administrators considering using DB2. It focuses on the similarities, differences, and terminologies of the DB2 and IDS architecture and functionality.

    DIRECTIONS

    Here are directions to Sears Home Office (3333 Beverly Rd., Hoffman Estates, IL 60179)....

    • Once inside the complex (more directions below):

    Follow the signs to visitor parking. After parking your car, return to the main entrance (you passed it on the way to visitor parking), and register at the front desk where you will be given a name tag.


    From the Loop or O'Hare Airport:

    Take I-90/I-94 West and stay on I-90 West (the Northwest Tollway) toward Hoffman. Exit at Beverly Road and proceed North (right). You will see the Sears entrance on the right.


    From the South:

    Take the closest North/South expressway to I-90 (Northwest Tollway) West. Stay on I-90 West to the exit of Beverly Road and proceed North (right). You will see the Sears entrance on the right.


    From the West of Route 59:

    Take I-90 East (the Northwest Tollway) to Route 59 (first exit after Rt. 25). Exit and proceed North to Higgins Rd. (Rt. 72). Turn left on Higgins and proceed to Beverly Rd. which borders the complex on the West. (You will actually pass the complex which is located on the South side of Higgins.) Turn left (South on Beverly Rd.). You will see the Sears entrance on the left.

    Once inside the complex

    Once you get your badge at the main entrance, walk past the front desk on the left and proceed through the glass doorway. When you reach the end of the hallway (about 50 feet), turn left and keep going. The event room (MRC General Session Room) is at the end of the hall.
